5-speed 915 gearbox Clean and Clear California title
1-Owner for over 40 years.
No Accidents
Original Black Plate CA Car

Offered at $64,990

This early Porsche is what I would call a survivor. It has been owned by the same person from new until just a few years ago. The original owner purchased it on July 1st, 1969 from the local Newport Beach Porsche dealer called Chick Iverson, Inc. It was special ordered as a display model. Factory options include:

Sportomatic transmission
Tinted side windows, windshield, and rear window
Antenna
Loudspeaker
Special Paint (the color was a 1968 color)
S Trim Package

The sales price of the car was $8,565.56. The owner traded-in a 1965 356 C coupe towards this purchase. He drove the car as a daily driver until the early 80?s when the original air suspension collapsed. The car sat in his garage for the next 29 years until one of our local R Gruppe member (Roger Grago) found it. The car was very original. The only thing that had been done to the car was a repaint (original color of course) back in the late 70?s. The interior was very original as was all the trim, rubber, etc. The goal of the current owner was to keep the car as original as possible and only replace the items that really needed it.

The following repairs/light restoration was performed over the past year:

New rubber seals around some of the trim and windows (all the deco trim and rubber is original)
Restored ?73 flat seats (vinyl)
Freshly built 915 manual 5-speed gearbox
Freshly built 2.7 MFI RS spec engine
New SSI Stainless heat exchangers and muffler
New Bilsteins
Rebuilt brake calipers with new rotors and pads
New master cylinder
New 4.5×15 and 5×15 correct ?69 steel wheels with new Michelins

Initially, the goal was to restore the original sportomatic gearbox and numbers matching engine to proper working order because all the parts were there. However, water had got into the heads from sitting and a complete rebuild would be necessary. Fortunately, we had just purchased an RS Clone project that had a completely rebuilt and new 915 manual gearbox and RS engine. So, we decided to take a bit of a different direction. The goal was to make a sleeper R Gruppe car that could easily be converted back to its original state at anytime. Everything original that was removed from the car was saved. We have the complete drivetrain with all the rare sporto parts. We also have the original 14? Fuch Wheels with vintage Michelin rubber. Finally, the original ?69 flat seats are included, but they are worn.

The condition of this 911 is fantastic. It has that definite patina of an old survivor car that hasn?t been abused. The paint has some nicks and a few flaws but all-in-all looks great and fits the look of the car. The brightwork, trim, and rubber are in equally as nice condition. The only flaw is a mar on the driver side rear window trim. The car even wears its original black CA license plates with very rare Chick Iverson license plate frames (front and back). The interior is in great original condition. The carpet is original as well as the matching Coco mats (complete front and back). Everything on the interior is original except the seats. The dash looks great with just two small cracks by the defrost vent. The gauges are original and look great. They all work properly except for the clock. The original Blaupunkt radio works great as well. The headliner is original as well as the seatbelts (still wearing their 1969 tags).

I absolutely love this car. It has such a cool vibe. It is the perfect understated R Gruppe car. With its sportomatic badging, matching ?sporto? shift knob, and steel wheels it is a total sleeper. Nothing like having 210hp beneath the deck lid to give this car a secret alter ego. This long-hood 911 is so easy to drive. It is tight and nimble. It just begs to be pushed in the corners.

This Porsche comes complete with original toolkit, spare, jack, owner?s manuals, original transmission, original numbers matching engine, original seats, and extra keys.

FS: 1978 911SC Coupe – Talbot Yellow – Rebuilt Engine!

Sunday, May 13th, 2012

This was posted on Pelican Parts at 05-13-2012 06:13 AM

For sale: 1978 Porsche 911SC – $17,500.

Three features distinguish this car.

  • It is a non-sunroof coupe, which affords more headroom for taller drivers and a helmet.
  • The color – Talbot Yellow is a less common color for the 911SC (the car was repainted the original color some time before my ownership began in 2004 – see walk around video link for details on paint condition.)
  • A newly rebuilt engine . The engine currently has less than 500 miles on it after going through an extensive rebuild (completed January 2012). The engine work included resized rods, rebuilt cylinder heads, valves ground, new valve guides and stem seals, crankshaft micropolished, new timing chains and ramps, new oil return tubes and o-rings. New main, rod and intermediate shaft bearings were purchased from Pelican before being sent to Calico Coatings for treatment. Mahle pistons and cylinders were re-used. Engine reassembly, installation and tuning were performed by respected Porsche mechanic Richard Buechler, owner of Alpine Motors in Hayden, Id (208 762-7914). Heads, rods and micropolishing were done by O’Neil’s Custom Engines, Spokane WA. I have receipts for all work cited.

I have extensive photo documentation of the teardown and build process, much of which can be seen on this photobucket album:

Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

Also, here is a link to a brief walk around and cold start up:

Porsche :: 1978 Porsche 911SC Walkaround and startup video by brg2290 – Photobucket

Other nice features of the car: Recaro SE seats, Fittipaldi steering wheel, 7″ front and 8″ rear x 16″ OEM Fuchs wheels, backdated exhaust with SSI stainless steel exhaust manifolds and a Monty stainless steel muffler, Optima Redtop, Carrrera chain tensioners and popoff valve.

The AC compressor, belt, bracket and rear condenser were not reinstalled. They are available and will come with the car if desired. (Other hoses and AC hardware / switchgear are still in place). I still have the OEM Cork leather seats and they are available if desired also. Cruise control is inoperative. Overall mileage on the car is 155,XXX. Originally a California car, but I do not have the original exhaust manifolds and catalytic converter.

There are several shops familiar with Porsche locally available for a pre-purchase inspection if you so desire.
Porsche of Spokane Service: (509)-210-2018
Silver Star Automotive: (509) 835-5334
European ********: (509) 535-4506

If you choose to come and see the car and are not local, Spokane International Airport is less than ten miles / 15 minutes from my home.

$17500 – price is firm.

Very clean and well taken care of e30 325i.
New engine with 80k – with documentation
New shocks
New struts
New battery
New alternator
Ac is converted to R34 – so its ice cold
All power everything
New brakes and rotors
17 inch rims with new tires
Custom aftermarket exhaust
Its automatic sadly, but if i have it long enough i will be swapping in a ZF 5 speed
Seats are pretty rough, going to get redone soon. But will be cheaper to take it as is for buyer.
I’m sure there’s more and i’ve left some things out

I have folder full of receipts showing all the maintenance and can verify the engine is new.
Car is amazing and rides smooth and engine pulls hard no problems at all.
Not sure what else to say about it so i will let the pictures do the talking.
Never in an accident, paint discoloration on front fender is from previous owners attempt to cover scratches for when someone scratched it.

1974 911 Targa – Project – w/ flares w/o engine/trans

Friday, May 11th, 2012

This was posted on Pelican Parts at 05-11-2012 04:05 PM

Going to test the waters with this one. I bought this car a couple years ago in Austin, TX and drove it home to Houston where it has been in storage – doing occassional work to the engine (3.0L) once every couple months (taking off CIS, adding Webers, checking valves/headstuds). So the car is driveable in its current form. However I am removing the engine and transmission (and a couple other parts) to transplant to my 914.

So this car would need an engine, tranny, interior, rear window, seatbelts (they don’t lock currently). The interior is a mess of cables. There is no rust except a couple small spots on the bottom of the car where it did punch through with a diameter of maybe an inch or two. If there is any serious interest – I can go through the car taking detailed photos of any good/bad stuff – I haven’t been under it in a long time. Somebody added flares and some Boxster wheels with wider rear tires – but did a poor job on the flares (see photo – not sure if it is rust or a bad bondo job, it hasn’t changed since I bought it)

Time frame, if somebody wants this soon – I’ll need to get the engine removed. If you want it in 6 months, we can work something out.

$5000

And if this doesn’t work – I’ll part the car out. No idea how many miles are on it. I have the Texas title.

No the rear is not purple – camera flash effect.

Rear flares have these.

1987 325is – Performance built and tuned

Friday, May 11th, 2012

This was posted on Bimmerforum at 05-11-2012 10:24 AM

After much debate I?ve decided to sell my (incredibly special) 1987 325is. I?m the second owner of this car that spent it?s entire life in Florida and North Carolina. The previous owner worked for Bimmerworld and built this car using absolute top quality components to produce a very potent Autocross car. I purchased it in the Spring of ?11 with the intention of using it as a weekend car – basically a glorified grocery-getter. This car is not that kind of car! It really needs to be driven and driven hard. While I had dreams of autocross events when I bought it, the reality is that I just don?t have the time to invest right now. It?s ready to roll/race as it sits – there is nothing that needs to be added or repaired.

It?s light, fast and very torquey. It starts, turns, shifts and stops like a dream. I?ve got piles of receipts for virtually every part that was purchased during the build. I also have Dyno reports that were created during the build.

There?s over 12K invested in this car. The Pete McHenry-built engine was $4500. The paintwork was $4000.

Here are the details:

Exterior / Body

  • This car was completely rebuilt nose to tail.
  • All bushings have been replaced
  • Body started w/ an original paint no wreck, no rust Delphin grey 1987 325iS e30 that spent nearly it?s whole life in Southern states (no snow!). The car had approximately 140K miles on it when it was rebuilt.
  • I have a CarFax report that shows history.
  • Complete respray (Delphin). Paint is approximately 6 years old and is in very good condition.
  • Converted to euro bumpers and euro front valance
  • BMW motorsport lower air dam/spoiler (purchased new from the dealer).
  • EVO M3 front grills H1 /H4 Hella lights
  • New moldings and emblems all way around
  • New rear spoiler
  • New sunroof seal, EVO M3 hood seals, Door Seals
  • Car has been lightened, weight = 2450

Engine

  • Started with a motor out of a 1989 325is
  • The engine was then built by the late Pete McHenry using the following:
  • 2.7L Schrick 284/272 cam, RD +1mm valves,
  • Custom milled headwork (by Pete)
  • High Compression Pistons
  • Larger Fuel injectors
  • Ported Intake with upgrade Airflow Meter (AFM)
  • High performance cone filter
  • Custom chip created by Bimmerworld (after extensive dyno testing)
  • New battery
  • Car has been dynoed on 3 separate occasions and puts down 183hp to the wheels
  • 48K miles on engine. Oil changed every 3K.

Exhaust

  • Full Stainless Super Sprint Header
  • Scorpion exhaust
  • Catalytic convertor intact

Transmission

  • Light weight flywheel
  • UUC short shifter

Suspension, Wheels and Brakes

  • Full BMW E30 M3 5 lug suspension
  • Koni adjustable shocks, the rears are top adjustable as well (no need to remove to adjust)
  • Ireland Engineering springs
  • H&R adjustable sway bars with reinforcements welded in. Heim joint links on the front.
  • New front rotors and Hawk pads
  • Lightweight Kosie 15×8 wheels with BFGoodrich tires (about 3K left on them)
  • Welded-in Camber and toe adjusters in rear
  • BMW Z3 steering rack – steering is quick and extremely tight

Interior

  • New BMW dash (not a pad – a completely new BMW dash)
  • Tenzo Racing Seats
  • Momo Competition Steering Wheel
  • New Euro carpet which weighs less than stock (no jute padding on it)
  • Clarion CD receiver, Alpine 200w amp, Polk audio speakers, JL sub (the car is wired up for Sat radio or Iphone / Ipod)

Extras

  • Air duct kit for the front brakes with BimmerWorld ducted backing plates.
  • Metal air box that uses the M3 size air filter
  • Two car covers
  • Spare Instrument panel circuit boards / Spare gauges
  • Chilton Manual
  • Original BMW Grey Carpet Kit

What it needs

  • The Speedometer is currently not working, but I?m including spare dash circuit boards and a gauge cluster that should resolve the issue. The removal of the instrument cluster and gauge swap is very easy.
  • Front bumper and side drip rails could use paint / powercoating

The car has spent one year in Michigan, has always been garaged and was stored in a heated garage all Winter (it’s still never seen snow). I had some minor maintenance work (oil pan gasket) done at Bodywerks in Detroit last Summer and the tech that did the work said he has never driven a faster, better put-together e30 325 in his life.

I?m asking $8000 for this car, but am willing to listen to serious offers. It’s available immediately and is being advertised on several BMW-specific websites, so if you’re interested – act soon. Please let me know if you’d like to check it out.

1970 911E barn find

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

This was posted on Pelican Parts at 05-10-2012 05:36 AM

This is a full restoration candidate, without any doubt. Complete car, with matching engine. Targa, with soft top included. Pulled from a barn after sitting for 29 years. Owner had passed away and wife didn’t know what to do with it.

5 matching, original wheels. Tool kit and tools included, titled in the state of Ohio and up to date on taxes.

Rust behind the headlights (as usual), bottom of doors, rockers and a few other small spots throughout. Floors seemed solid, surprisingly. All glass is good, all chrome is there, the key is included. The seats move well on their tracks, it’s very complete.

The engine is all there. (we didn’t try to turn it, but looked inside the combustion chambers). The air cleaner is included, it was removed but is present with the car.

Accepting offers on the car, we have realistic expectations. It needs someone who knows these cars and can bring it back to life. It’s too rare a car to let it waste away any longer.

The Engine runs great, no smoke, and the car has been a 100% reliable commuter. The engine came from a running ?92 325iC and currently has around 70k miles total. The swap was done two winters ago. The new Hankooks are very sticky and the widest tire I could fit on the car. The car handles and grips like mad! The e36 M3 steering rack has transformed the steering response over the slow stock e30 rack (this is by far the best bang for the buck e30 mod!). Inka Orange is a great color and I always get asked about the car in parking lots. 100% disclosure, the paint is FAR from perfect (some orange peel and imperfections), it has some scratches, and a small fist size dent on the drives side front fender. This is not a concourse car. Comes with two ?is? front air dams with good fog lights. The Orange one has been scraped around and has seen better days. The extra one is solid and ready for paint. I will include some extra paint for touch up and matching purposes. I can hear a slight hum from the LF wheel bearing, but it has not gotten any worse in the last few thousand miles. Even though the clutch and throw out bearing are fairly new, the throw out bearing does make some noise. Push in the clutch, and it?s silent. The solid poly and delrin drivetrain bushings do transmit some gear noise into the car in the lower gears, but there is ZERO slop in the drive-train, very tight! Includes the 3.73 and ?is? clutch pack LSD diff. It must have been re-packed at some point since it still locks up really well and you can feel it in tight parking maneuvers. The car is about 98% worked out with mods and updates. Occasionally I get a CEL from the Throttle Position Sensor. If I floor it and then release the throttle, it clears. The tach sporadically works for a few days and then doesn?t work for a week. I?ll let the next caretaker figure that one out (the gauge panel was gone through, so I suspect it?s a cold solder joint). The rotors and pads are pretty new, with aggressive Porterfield street/track compound. I get some pedal pulsation from them since I don?t brake hard enough on the street. Once the pads have a little heat in them they perform very well.

Asking $3500 obo
